  • What are they doing?

Since 2005, interrupted only by major dockings and the global pandemic--Vega and her dedicated volunteer crew have sailed roughly 7,000 miles annually. Each year, they collect and deliver vital tools, medical supplies, and educational materials. Sourced from hubs in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, these donations reach the remote shores of East Timor and Eastern Indonesia, empowering local communities to protect their environment and thrive through better health and education.

  • What's Vega relationship with Singapore?

Since 2005, Vega has made her biannual transit through Singapore, bridging the gap between the Indonesian archipelago and more affordable dry docking yards in Malaysia and Thailand. While she is a dedicated visitor, she remains a 'hidden' gem in our waters; operating on a shoestring budget, she must bypass Singapore's high-cost facilities for berthing and often dock at waterfront facilities to manage expenses. Following the challenges of COVID-19, high berthing and agency fees have even forced her to skip Singapore stops entirely at times.

Despite these hurdles, the spirit of support remains unbroken. While the specific mix of local volunteers, non-profits, and companies shifts over time as leadership changes, a new generation of supporters invariably steps forward to take the baton. By providing donations and in-kind support—ranging from medical supplies and educational materials to technical maritime equipment and crewing—these partners ensure Vega can continue her holistic mission of medical aid, education, and environmental conservation.

  • Sailing Vessel, the Original Pioneer of Decarbonization

While the maritime industry races to "decarbonize," all sailing vessels have been leading the charge for over a century. Long before Wind-Assisted Propulsion (WAP) became a modern industry goal, Vega was harnessing renewable energy to fulfill her mission.

This isn’t just tradition; it is a functional, low-carbon model for the future. Today, as newbuild cargo ships adopt modern wing and rotor technologies, they are returning to the same wisdom Vega never abandoned.

This event is a proud partner of the Singapore Heritage Fest 2026, which celebrates our nation's rich maritime legacy. By showcasing Vega, we demonstrate that technology and heritage are not opposing forces, but partners in progress. While her 134-year-old hull represents the pinnacle of traditional craftsmanship, her reliance on wind-assisted propulsion aligns perfectly with modern sustainability goals. Step aboard during our Open House to see this living proof of concept—a bridge between our maritime past and a greener horizon, proving that the most sustainable solutions for our future have been with us all along.
